Must Be Vacation Time

That's all I can figure to explain the top two news stories on yesterday's local page:

Entire Starman family gets together for first time since 1978

and

River, the English settler, steals hearts as well as votes

One is not news, maybe an "On the Street" feature in a slow week. The other is not only not-news, but a Herald-Whig promotion.

Perhaps I should be glad that apparently nothing, nothing, nothing newsworthy at all is happening around our area.

The bonus, of course, is that the dog is an English setter, not a Pilgrim of Colonial days.

Oh Dear Me

"Local PBS station says $400,000 needed to stay on air.
"Only months after upgrading to digital broadcasts, the PBS affiliates serving West-Central Illinois are up against a funding crunch."

Gosh, I wonder who their director of fund-raising is.
Or maybe who is in charge of special projects and grants.

Ah, of course. People well known to our friends across the river for leading institutions into financial crisis.

The complicated subject of health care

can be explained in 140 characters:

"Pres Obama you got nerve while u sightseeing in Paris to tell us 'time to deliver' on health care. We still on skedul/even workinWKEND."

Thanks, Senator Grassley, for your insights.
