Gee thanks, AP
The economic downturn isn't such a bad thing...it's "an opportunity to address concerns you and your partner ignored in the past"
and a chance for people to enjoy "more time with family and friends, learning new skills, focusing on their health and pursuing hobbies."
Gosh, maybe we should have recessions more often.

It's especially ironic that AP should take this attitude, since the current recession--while of course in large part due to financial wheedling and improper activities of companies and their executives--has been massively exacerbated by the fearmongering not of the left or the right, but of the media themselves.
Not saying gloss it over, but also saying if they hadn't been so doom and gloom for the last year things would not be nearly as bad as they are now.
What's a company to do when it keeps hearing the media say "oh we're going to hell in a handbasket and all you companies will have to layoff people and..." etc etc. Eventually the comnpany says "there must be seom truth in that" and lays off people, and the snowball begins to roll.
Again, not saying don;t report on conditions but for heaven's sake don't be so damned negative (or take such apparent glee) about it all.
PS. And what are ordinary people supposed to think when they keep getting pounded by media messages about how terrible everything is--even when their own eyes and brains would show them it's not nearly as bad (back then) as it actually was.
