Important Issues
Quincy's Young Professionals met with city leaders to talk about important issues to the city of Quincy......
......such as having cabs outside of Backwaters to take them home at closing time.

YP Sucks. Why would anyone want to pay to be a member of something just so they can talk together at a bar.
Another Quincy "thing".
The Holidays ......that's whats important
I tipped many a glass at the Machinists Hall. Never once did I get a big Herald Whig article about how great drinking beer with Union Brothers and Sisters was.
and the city leaders praised them for their vision?
I don't think that was the only thing they talked about, it just happened to be the thing they talked about the most. They are a bright bunch of people. Frankly, is it that bad of an idea - having the bus and cabs run later at night ? People are always going to be out late at the bars. Why not get drunks off the street? I thought it was a good question to ask.
I checked YP's website through GREDF for their calender of community events for December. On the 27th there is a Happy Hour.
...that's the entire schedule.
That's not their entire schedule. They have other events, I'm sure. I'm not a member, but I think it's ridiculous to say they suck. They are a networking group. Who cares if they go to a bar? Doesn't everyone in this town? At least they are trying to be responsible by asking why the cab companies don't run later. In bigger cities, that's the norm to get around. When visitors come here, they are surprised to hear there's only one company and that when you do call a cab, it takes 45 minutes to get there. And if you do call a cab, you are looked at oddly.
Where are the rest of the events then? I think cabs running late is great idea. I don't think it's a great idea to have tax payer funded YP coordinator.
The YP sounds to me to be similar to the Quincy Jaycees 35 - 40 years ago. That organization was comprised of active, intelligent community minded men (sorry ladies - that's the way it was then) between the age of 21 and 35. Many of our present community leaders were members of that organization. Around 1972 Jaycees advocated closing traffic on Maine Street and turning it into something of a piazza. They had the vision to see drastic changes needed to be made downtown for it to survive. Instead, the city came up with a facade program that helped fund Maine Street businesses so they could put aluminum facades over their brick and stone buildings. By the way, I think the city is funding the removal of that fiasco now. Sorry - got a bit carried away. If the YP members throw enough ideas against the wall, some surely will stick. May their wisdom and judgement be good!
Cabs in quincy, great idea. But there are other places they are needed
I was at the meeting, and the YP members asked questions about infrastructure/economic development, health care, housing, and how to be involved in political and charitable organizations. The cab thing came up first on the agenda, and therefore created the most discussion.
By the way, I think Sean Heeger 'sucks'. This guy is worthless.
